What's the difference between a debit and credit card?

You can use a debit card to spend and withdraw the money that’s available in your account. When you make a payment, the money comes out of your account and your balance is updated. This usually happens immediately.

A credit card, such as a Barclaycard, isn’t linked to your current account. You can use the agreed amount of credit to buy things and pay for them later.

The amount of credit you spend is added to your credit card account each month. You can choose to pay off your bill in full with no interest by a set date, or pay off a minimum amount with interest. The sooner you pay off your balance, the less interest you’ll pay.
